What are the types of treatments for acne scars?

If you’ve been living with acne-scarred skin, you may not be aware of the treatments available for those scars. Doctors and aestheticians have a variety of techniques they can use to treat acne scars.

Some of the possible treatments include the following:

What treatments do we recommend?

At Rochester Laser Center, we offer several treatments that we believe are most effective for treating acne scars. Among the services we offer are the following:

Chemical peels

We find that people with fair skin and light hair often get the best results from chemical peels, though they are effective for many other people as well. Chemical peels work well to remove acne scars and also reduce dark skin associated with the scars. What’s even better is that chemical peels may actually prevent you from experiencing future acne breakouts.

Laser facials

We use the MedLite C6 laser by Cynosure® for our laser facials because we believe this machine does superior work compared to treatments that may be more harsh for your skin. In addition to reducing acne scars, the laser can also eliminate fine lines and wrinkles and make your skin look better overall.

Vivace™ RF microneedling

Dr. Nabity and his staff uses this method because it operates with a robot-guided mechanism, which offers far more precise and accurate results. One additional benefit of the Vivace™ RF method is that it delivers effective results on all skin tones and types.

What to expect from treatment

Dr. Nabity and his staff will help guide you to determine the best course of treatment for you. The specifics will vary based on which treatment you choose, but in general, most treatments have minimal to no pain.

Chemical peels may sting a little bit but they shouldn’t be overly painful. The results are similar to a sunburn, so you may experience some redness and peeling a few days after the procedure.

Laser facials are generally painless, but your skin may be more sensitive afterwards. As with all treatments for acne scars, you should use sunscreen religiously after treatment.

Vivace™ RF microneedling is tolerable but not necessarily comfortable. We usually administer a numbing cream beforehand. Afterwards, your skin will be pink and feel slightly sunburned. Your skin should return to normal within 24-72 hours.

With all treatments, you may need more than one session. The staff will let you know how many sessions to expect for optimal results.
