What is microneedling?

During a microneedling session, the technician uses a device with super-fine needles to create tiny punctures in the top layer of your skin. This triggers a wound response in your body, so you create new collagen and elastin: two compounds that contribute to firm, healthy-looking skin.

The new collagen and elastin thickens your skin and minimizes the appearance of lines while improving skin tone and diminishing pigmentation.

Microneedling is appropriate for a variety of skin tones and makes it easier for products, including moisturizers and anti-aging creams, to be absorbed deeply into your skin.

Does microneedling hurt?

Most patients tolerate microneedling well. It’s not a procedure that you’d choose for relaxation, but applying a topical numbing cream beforehand eases discomfort. Following treatment, your skin will feel slightly sunburned and have a pinkish hue. It takes 24-72 hours for your skin to recover completely.

After treatment, you’ll be advised to use sunblock and you must stay out of the direct sun for two weeks. You should also avoid aggressive exfoliation for at least one week after treatment.

How long before I see results from microneedling?

While you begin seeing results on the day after treatment, remember that collagen and elastin production takes time.

You’ll notice optimal results four to eight weeks following treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

It really depends on your skin, but you will definitely see results after just one treatment. Most patients however require 2-3 treatments for optimal results and long-term benefits spaced 30 days apart.

What areas can I treat?

Microneedling treatment is appropriate for all parts of the body; face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. Typically, the procedure takes 40-50 minutes. Deeper wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks may require 6-8 sessions. Results can be seen right away; reducing wrinkles, improving texture, tone and overall softer younger-looking skin.
